Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, at Lynn Massachusetts. The actress is the eldest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. Ruth was a small toddler when her father who was the carnival barker, passed away. Her mother was forced to take on jobs such as waitressing and cleaning. Ruth was born in the poorest neighborhood in Boston Massachusetts in which she went to school. She only attended the school for two years, before leaving to pursue her acting profession. This was not an easy path to take. Although she got a job in New York posing as a writer for a mystery publication, no theatre jobs was offered. When she was employed as a hat-check woman in a nightclub she quit her job and moved back to Boston. She worked as an usherette during the day and then appeared at the New England Repertory Company by the evening. This was her first acting position that was permanent. She also graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she was a drama student.
